In conjunction with CTSGroup, UK Gas Training have been providing
Gas Portfolio Training, and Gas Portfolio Building, on the
job gas
training, and NVQ Assessment for the Domestic and Commercial
Gas Sector for the past 15 years. One of
our specialties is
providing tailored Gas Portfolios and Lead Engineer Gas Work Experience
and References for our clients. To achieve this we
run an In House Adult Apprenticeship Type Training and Assessment
Scheme that actually guages when a candidate is ready to undertake
their ACS Assessments. The most essential part of your gas training
course is THIS PART, and we Come to You
in
your Home Town anywhere in the UK the build the gas
portfolio.

Without
demonstrated Solo Work Experience (Evidence that you can fulfil your
Gas Safety Duties ON YOUR OWN), getting gas work, or becoming
self
employed on completion of your training is going to be a real problem.
AT a time when Cat 3 Schemes are starting to be suspended due to
competence issues of newly accredited engineers possessing little and
certainly insufficent solo experience it is essential that you consider
including the followoing component into your your Program. We
get
calls daily from candidates who having completed their courses are
being turned away by employers. If you are really looking to earn a
high Level Income then you will need to demonstrate that you are a
Professional. Our Gas Portfolio Training Programs are Miles ahead of
anyone else
in the UK.
To address this we run this specialist Up Skill
Adult Apprenticeship Package that includes
1. Training (Under the supervision of a qualified Training Instructor).
Our Instructors are all Centre Gas Assessors or Ex Corgi On Site
Inspectors, British Gas Apprentice and Field Assessors so the Training
comes from only the BEST. We dont leave you to learn second hand from
field engineers because they do not have teaching qualities and are
trying to earn a living. WIth Our Trainers you will only ever work on
Gas. You wont be watching you will be doing from day one. Our Gas
Portfolio Training is a Professional Experience with Professional
Rewards.
2. Training is only ever 100% on gas and since it is assessed there is
no set time frame. A soon as YOU can demonstrate Consistant Competence
on all the gas safety tasks in a Lead Engineer Role, we issue your Cat
1 Gas Entry Certificate, and On the Job NVQ Certificate.
These
come standard with our gas portfolio training.
All our Assessors
are approved to complete your Entry to ACS Certificate in the Field (No
need to go back to your college)

3.
We will happily provide references of your period of working with us,
although you may wish to continue with our Kick start Gas registration
program to get you off to the best possible start. View our

COSTS
Each of these task areas, trained and assessed is charged from
£48 per item,
This Includes Core CCN1 tasks and Appliance Components. (This cost
includes photographic evidence, reporting documentation, gas portfolio
sleeves, loan of tools and sundries, one to one training and assessment
with an accredited and
gas
registered (A1/V32) Gas Assessor on the job).

These
sessions are
extremely
intensive
and are only ever completed one at a time with sufficient space
separatuing sessions for candidates to address any mistakes made during
their assessments. This is normally one or two weeks at least.
It is possible for positive minded students to complete up to
6 to 8 gas portfolio items in an
extended session.
We therefore take a Deposit of £480 prior to commencing. You
then
simply top up your account as you go along at a rte that you can afford.
All our On the Job training assessment and gas portfolio sessions can
only be undertaking after a short preparation training program which
can be completed online. The cost of this is included in your Training
and Assessment Program. Most students arriving for their
training
sessions are far from prepared and are unable to transfer their theory
or class courses into real work. Portfolio building for most is
following an engineer around getting pictures. This is not its purpose.
The purpose is to gain Lead Engineer Work Experience in all areas of
gas work, to a standard where you are able to go it alone.
This program prevents you wasting money on embarrassing site visits.
Your training and site assessments during your gas work
experience, and gas portfolio period can be compared to having several
on site inspections from gas safe.

This is the only Gas Portfolio Building scheme in the UK that provides
Verified Solo Work Experience as part of the acs gas portfolio which is
necessary if you are seeking self employment or employment on
completion without the need for a further 2 years work experience with
a gas registered company after completing your ACS Gas Training

Normally entry to this sector would be as a trainee or apprentice where
the employer provides their own in house training program and often
employs the services of a college or training centre to undertake their
ACS Assessments. With the falling number of apprenticeships and in
house training programs many new entrants or candidates looking to
change careers have to opt for a managed learning program to cover the
essential gas safety elements of their training. What these institutes
find hard to deliver is an extended period of on the job training that
starts at support level (i.e. making the teas and carrying the tools
for the lead engineer).
The candidates progress is monitored by the
companies in-house
accredited assessors. When the candidate is deemed ready to move to a
lead role they are then assessed in a lead role without support to
establish their readiness to act on the companies behalf and carry out
their work safely and effectively in a solo capacity. When the assessor
is satisfied with the trainees abilities to work safely on the full
scope of their work areas they are sent to college to complete their
Initial ACS Assessments so the company can send them to work.
The company then monitors their aptitude with
quality assurance
during their early probationary period offering support and further
training where required. Unfortunately the majority of training
programs unable to offer this leave this vital part of the training in
the hands of the trainee, and unless you are already working for a gas
registered company the difficulties soon become evident.
Getting a work placement is not easy because it
costs the company
time and money to give up the time of a lead engineer of auditor to
train and assess you. Some companies offer this service with a job
waiting at the end, and this is the ideal solution. However these are
far and few between as most companies elect to train their own
candidates. These are less available now than ever due to the expansion
of term contracts where training a candidate to work on a contract that
might not even be available is not a viable business option. Instead ,
work ready candidates with experience and references are more often
than not the only means into employment.
Self employment is no different. Without any
solo experience or
field assessed evidence that you are ready to work in the field without
support makes the step from ACS Assessments for new candidates almost
impossible. The majority of
our inquiries come from ACS
Accredited candidates unable to gain employment
and who are now seeking work experience or
evidence of solo
competency with an accredited assessor's field report as supporting
evidence.
Due to the vast number of candidates now
entering the market
without sufficient experience or assessment of solo competency we no
longer offer field placements with an engineer. All field training is
now carried out by accredited assessors and qualified trainers who are
able to offer training which is 100% on the gas areas you are
qualifying in. All training sessions include working on all the prime
areas of gas work and assessment commences as soon as the candidate
demonstrates sufficient ability to identify and action unsafe
situations from their training. Our portfolios of evidence demonstrate
only work completed from beginning to end by the candidate, and thus
demonstrate a true account of solo competency and work readiness. This
has been sought more and more by companies whose existing workforce are
transferring from other engineering trades to cover gas work, and where
the company needs the candidate work ready on their return.
We are now using this same service for all New
Entrants who can
now benefit from the same level of service and one to one tuition and
assessment on the job. Being a gas registered company our trainers,
accredited assessors and gas inspectors all work in the field, and have
long term experience training and assessing on the job. The result
being that the training time in many cases is reduced because all the
training and assessment is only on the field of work needed. The
candidate is not supporting an engineer or hoping the next job will be
on gas and that they may get a turn.
The time to complete the training and assessment
program
is dependent solely on each individual candidates'
ability to
demonstrate confidence, competence, and above all a documented
procedure of their thoughts, considerations and actions whilst working
in a lead role, and whilst on site. This means that if you have
existing experience it is likely that your training period will be much
shorter. For candidates without previous experience working in whole
house situations this method of training and assessment is essential to
build self confidence and evidence of solo competency, vital for self
employment on completion of ACS Assessment and to enhance job
prospects.
The field training and assessment is by far the
most important
part of your training and as such reflects this in its cost. All of our
trainers as you will discover have experienced prosperous and rewarding
careers in gas and they will tell you themselves that this is because
they are always in demand. If you ask what the key factor to their
success is, you will discover that it is because of their ability to
identify real gas safe issues that most engineers missed, and as such
have made excellent careers from this. Our trainees will all tell you
that more than 80% of the properties they worked in did not meet
current safety standards and the wealth of follow on work available in
most properties is enough to keep them in work without the need to do
anything but gas, and keep advertising costs down. This same
ability makes you invaluable to an employer whose primary purpose for
employing you is to help them make their business successful.
Unfortunately the current market demonstrates that new engineers often
need someone following their work to put right all the
mistakes.
You are welcome to examine examples of
portfolios completed with
our service online on request to see the level of attention and broad
capabilities of our trainees.
Options
We have a number of options to assist you in
developing a
portfolio of experience and assessed evidence demonstrating your real
solo skills. Your options really depend on your current
position.
Our portfolios meet the requirements of all
training bodies, but
in some cases you will need to complete the documents you were issued
with after training. In this case we will have to confirm that we are
able to help you. Where you have not undertaken our own entry
certificate you will need to complete a field preparation program with
us. This can be completed online without the need to come into centre
and is included in the cost of your portfolio. The purpose of this
program is to save you time and embarrassment when you arrive for your
first few training sessions. When you consider that the outcome of
succeessful on and off job training concludes in a professional
certificate and registration card that puts you in the class of
'Professional' where you are deemed trust worthy enough to endorse
passport photographs, the same level of professionalism as a Doctor or
Lawyer who have both undergone up to 9 years of on an off job training
it soon becomes evident that a few days, or months in college as a new
start is far from sufficient to bring about a career as
a professorial, and for many of our candidates this has in the
past proved too much, leaving them deflated and dumbfounded.
The portfolio has only become a necessary
component where the
candidate is having to self certify their work abilities and competency
in the field because they are not already working for a gas registered
company as part of a long term structured training and work preparation
program. The role of the college has rightfully been to endorse their
training as a third party assessor, but unfortunately this is far from
sufficient for todays employer or contractor who cannot safely train in
house due to running term contracts, but who needs to know you have
gained solo experience and not just a qualification.
Working with us has its benefits. We consider
your existing
capabilities when you commence one of our programs, which is tailored
to you as you go along. That means if you start off raw but show
promise early and improve on this with our help, your training and
assessment period can reduce as you go alone, and with it the cost. One
thing you should know is that we do not charge any of the customers
properties we carry out work in because we want to stay there as long
as it takes for our candidates to complete their training and
assessments fully. The training is not rushed, and all the work is
carried out by YOU. You will be completing job sheets and summary
warning notices, carrying out servicing, maintenance, appliance install
and commission, gas repairs, and all manner of work related to your
chosen field of work. On the down side this does mean that the costs
are a little higher than following an engineer around, but these costs
balance themselves by removing wasted days that could have been spent
on your existing commitments, minimum driving all over the place
because finding work properties is very easy when we don't charge the
customer.
Costs
Our costs are determined primarily by your entry
level of
experience, self confidence and how well you complete the Field entry
program which includes mock gas inspections and virtual reality
scenarios before you step 1 foot into a real life situation.
Our
Assessment period has a minimum 32 hours solo on gas with an assessor
watching over you. This adds pressure but is important because the
customer cannot sway your decision on safety when you are out there on
your own. Because we cannot determine your overall costs until you
commence we set capped rates that mean that whether you do it in a
total of 32 hours or 32 years we don't stop until you are competent and
work ready. We have candidates who have sailed through in weeks, whilst
others are into their 3rd year. This may not be everyones cup
of
tea, but it has its rewards in the long run. For those who are willing
to swim with the sharks in the deep end there is nothing to fear and it
will be a walk in the park. For those with less confidence, arriving in
the field on your first real job without being prepared will lead your
career down the most rocky of paths. Every week we are talking to
candidates who after 2 or 3 years are still coming back to us asking
for a quote, long after their OUT OF TIME period has elapsed, looking
to start all over. These candidates could have recovered their costs in
the first few months had they completed the program and arrived in the
field amongst the most competent engineers already in the
field.
ALL FEES ARE PAID AS YOU
GO. That means you can
stop or start as you can afford, without any further obligation. If you
are not completely satisfied with the training and assessment you
needn't pay another penny.
For CAT 3 , New entrants
with no previous
experience and low confidence levels training & assessment fees
start at £480 and are capped at £3400 (regardless of how much training
is needed) Costs vary depending on certification bodies and we
recommend requesting a quote. (Similarly we can assist with simple
portfolio building only without assessment)
For CAT 3,and CAT 2 with
previous field
experience, but no formal qualifications fee start at £480 and are
capped at £2800 (Regardless of how much training
&
Assessment is needed).
For any student with
part built portfolios we can
provide sessions to complete your portfolios. Simply Let us
know
your certification body and request a quote.
For any student who is
running out of time this
program includes a changeover and update certificate to allow you more
time.
For students wanting to
transfer their training
we can use the same changeover program to enable you to complete with
our selves or at any other UK Assessment Centre.
** Note: regardless of your entry level, your period of training is
gauged by only one factor. Your ability to demonstrate all round
competence. This is not a self cert scheme. You are certified competent
only by an accredited assessor whilst on the job in a
solo
Lead engineer Role. **
A deposit of £240 enters you onto the program
where you will
commence the field preparation program. Fees are then paid as you go
during your training and assessment visits. We currently have assessors
covering the whole of the UK.
On completion we are able to provide work references
